O'Day ready to take State Rep. post

O'Day ready to take State Rep. post

Published January 21, 2007

Despite the deep freeze that enveloped Austin, Representative-Elect Mike O’Day said his trip to the capital Wednesday to begin preparations to take office was effective.

O’Day got 520 of Matagorda County’s 816 votes cast in Tuesday’s runoff against Randy Weber for the District 29 seat in the Texas House.

Only 4 percent of Matagorda County’s registered voters cast a ballot in Tuesday’s runoff. The freezing weather kept Brazoria County voters away from the polls as well with only 5,396 ballots cast.

The ice storms severely limited action in the Texas House this week, O’Day said Thursday while returning to the district.

Committee assignments still had not been announced Friday.

O’Day met with Speaker Tom Craddick and other state officials Tuesday and Wednesday and hoped to learn Friday when election results would be made official and he would be sworn in.

In this transition, O’Day said residents can leave messages at his Pearland campaign office (281) 997-1103 or fax (800) 878-6826 or e-mail at info(at)odayfortexas.com. The campaign Web site www.odayfortexas.com will remain active until the District 29 Internet and e-mail accounts come online, he said.

O’Day added that some former campaign staff members are assisting with the transition to Austin and district offices and will ensure that messages are passed on to him until his legislative staff is in place.

The telephone numbers listed in area telephone books and some Internet sites for District 29 are out of service until he officially takes office.
