Dixie Farm Road closing for weekend in March

Dixie Farm Road from the McDonald Drive intersection east to FM 518 will be shut down over a weekend in March for drainage work, a city official said Monday.
Although the weekend has not been set yet, nonstop construction will last from 7 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday versus the originally planned seven-day road closure, Trent Epperson, Pearland project director, said.
The weekend work will subtract two weeks from the project schedule, Epperson said.
After the city gets the closure dates from TXDOT, it will alert the public at least two weeks before the shut-down, he said.
Alternate weekend routes include Beamer Road to FM 2351 and possibly Blackhawk Boulevard or Beamer to Scarsdale/Yost boulevards, a tie-in that should be completed in two or three weeks.
"We want to put this off until the Scarsdale/Yost tie-in is done," Epperson said, adding that official grand opening for the bridge is March 21.
The entire Dixie Farm project will widen the road from two lanes to four from Beamer to SH 35.
Phase I of construction - from Beamer to FM 518 - is expected to be completed by November 2008, Epperson said.
