PEARLAND — Three men suspected in a March drive-by shooting remained in the Brazoria County jail Tuesday on bonds totaling $80,000 each.
Alvin residents Alonzo Gonzalez and Juan Deleon, both 17, were picked up by Pearland Police Department detectives Saturday from Weaver Valley Detention Center in Ogden, Utah, on two charges each of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to a prepared statement from Pearland police. Both men are admitted gang members with the East Side Locos, the statement said.
“They both admitted to the detectives,” said Roy Castillo, Pearland Police Department’s public information officer. “They’re saying that it’s gang-related, but the victims are not claiming any affiliation.”
The men are suspected of shooting a 16-year-old boy and 17-year-old Darrell Stewart on March 14 at a Pearland apartment complex parking lot in the 3300 block of East Walnut, according the statement.
One victim suffered wounds to the facial area, and the other suffered wounds to the lower leg area, Castillo said. Both victims were released from Ben Taub Hospital in Houston the next day.
Police were able to locate and arrest the third suspect, Joel Ramos Jr., 17, at an Alvin home off Fifth Street on March 17, Castillo said. The other two men were located through an investigation, he said.
“We had good info on their whereabouts,” Detective Donald Patterson said in the prepared statement. “It was just a matter of time before we got them.”
Gonzalez and Deleon were found with family members in Utah, Castillo said.
“We flew there and back with no problems,” Patterson said in the statement.
Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is a second-degree felony which carries a punishment between two and 20 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000, according to the press release.
