Teams plan postseason series

The number of Brazoria County teams still seeking state titles has dropped, but the level of competition should rise this weekend as the UIL and TAPPS playoffs move into the next round.
In softball, the Brazoswood Lady Bucs (29-5-1) are set for a Class 5A, regional quarterfinal series with Elkins (25-8). Game 1 will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in Pearland, with the second game at 6 p.m. Friday at Elkins. If a third game is necessary, it will follow Game 2. The first game of the series will be broadcast on KBRZ, 1460 AM.
In other Class 5A softball action, the Alvin Lady ’Jackets (32-7) and Pearland Lady Oilers (31-6), Brazoswood rivals from District 24-5A, will meet in a three-game series. All three games will be played at Santa Fe, with the first game at 7 p.m. Thursday and the second at 6 p.m. Friday, with a third to follow if necessary.
In baseball, the Angleton Wildcats (16-14) will meet New Caney (20-7) in the Class 4A area round of the postseason in a best-of-three matchup at Baseball USA in Houston. The first game will be played at 7 p.m. Thursday, the second at 7 p.m. Friday and a third, if necessary, at 7 p.m. Saturday. Game 2 will be on KBRZ.
In Class 5A baseball, Pearland (24-8) and West Brook (25-7) will battle in a best-of-three. The first game is 6 p.m. Thursday in Pearland, the second at 4 p.m. Friday at West Brook and a third game, if necessary, will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Barbers Hill.
In TAPPS Class 2A play, Brazosport Christian faces Tomball Rosehill in a state semifinal game at 1 p.m. Thursday at Veterans Memorial Field in Waco. Should the Eagles win that game, they will play at 1 p.m. Friday at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton for the state title.
Also playing this week is Bay City, which will face Little Cypress-Mauriceville. Game 1 of the series is 8 p.m. Wednesday at the University of Houston, with the second game set at 7 p.m. Friday at Barbers Hill. A third game, if necessary, is planned for 7 p.m. Saturday at Texas City.
