AMERICAN DREAM RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the United States was built on the foundation that private property rights are a sacred cornerstone of democracy; and
WHEREAS, Texas was founded on the principle of protecting private property; and
WHEREAS, It is important to preserve these rights and maintain constitutional protections against regulation and seizure of a homestead; and
WHEREAS, Texas must continue to make property tax reductions a priority at the local and state level for all Texans to maintain our future economic viability and reduce the heavy burden property owners shoulder; and
WHEREAS, Any reduction in school property taxes shall not be offset by newly created property taxes related to a real estate transaction - especially in the form of a deed restriction conveying fees and taxes to local governments and homeowner’s associations; and
WHEREAS, Any new property tax related to a real estate transaction would create even more barriers to home ownership at a time when 45% of firsttime home buyers in America put no money down when buying a home; and
WHEREAS, It shall be a goal of this state to increase the home ownership rate in Texas, which currently ranks a dismal 42nd in the nation; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that both the Republican and Democratic Party's take a stand for Texas property owners and repudiates any creation of a real estate transaction tax and supports paving the way for more Texans to attain the American Dream of home ownership.
