Blue Ridge Landfill Hearing On Hold
An administrative law judge in Austin ruled last week to defer proceedings in the contested hearing until June 6, 2008. In this delay, Allied Waste which operates the Blue Ridge Landfill at 2200 F.M. 521, will try and settle differences with opponents of the project.
Allied wants to increase the landfill footprint from the current 302 acres to 784 acres, and increase the maximum height at which trash can be piled, from the current 58 feet to 170 feet, that is 17 stories high. Opponents range from The City of Pearland, channels 11, 13 and 26 and an citizens group called Coalition Against Blue Ridge Landfill Expansion.
